Day 31 ~ Rain Puddle Reflection

It rained this morning and there are puddles everywhere.  That means I didn't have to water my garden today :)  It also means that the driveway is muddy again.  This is an old logging road that cuts through the back of our property.

Day 29 ~ Strawberries

Yesterday I planted strawberries in my garden :)  By the time I finished it was too dark to take a photo, so I took one today.  I planted 60 strawberry plants, but since I really have no idea how many we need, I hope that's enough!

Day 27 ~ Fruits & Vegetables

I participate in a fruit and vegetable co-op.  There are about 15-18 families in our group and every other week my friend places an order with a restaurant supply company.  They even deliver the cases to her house and a few of us divide it up between everyone's baskets.  We each pay $20 each time which gives her between $300 and $360 to spend.  That's seems to be about the right amount to get a good variety without becoming overwhelming.  Each time we get a little bit different variety of fruits and vegetables.  Today I got all of this (plus some grapes I gave away).  If you aren't able to see it all, this is what I got:  a pineapple, 5 large Gala apples, 2 heads of broccoli, lettuce, carrots, 2 zucchini, 4 oranges, 7 bananas, 4 Roma tomatoes, about a lb of green beans, red potatoes, and a bag of red grapes.  Not too bad for $20!

Day 26 ~ Field Peas

The grass we have planted is field grass for the animals.  It is a mixture of rye, wheat, and field peas.  I just noticed that some of the field peas are blooming due to the unusually warm weather we've been having.  On Sunday the high was 78 degrees!  Most days have been in the high 60's.

Day 25 ~ Rain Through the Window

It was raining so hard all day today I couldn't really even go out to take photos.  So I took some photos through the window :)  In this photo I focused outside at the trees and the raindrops on the windows took on a cool bokeh effect.

Even though this photo was only taken 5 minutes later, it was raining much harder.  I focused more on the rivers of water coming down the window and got a different fun effect.

Day 24 ~ Laundry

I did laundry yesterday and today.  We have a gas dryer and since we don't have a propane tank yet, it is unusable at the moment :(  So I get to hang all of our clothes to dry.  If the weather is good, it's not a problem.  But if we have rain, it can sure make doing laundry much more difficult.  I knew rain was coming this afternoon, so I had to get the laundry caught up.  I barely got it all in before the rain started!

Day 23 ~ Roof Trusses

The pump house is almost done!  These are the roof trusses.  My husband and youngest son finished roofing half of it today and they will finish the other half tomorrow.  (The siding was finished on Saturday.)  It is supposed to rain tomorrow afternoon so they want to get it finished before then :)

Day 22 ~ Bottle Weaning Calves

The time has come.  No more milk for my babies and they are NOT happy.  We've been giving them only one milk feeding a day for the past few days, and now none.  They've been bawling all day for more milk.  I feel sorry for them :(  But the younger two are 3 months old now and Annabelle is almost 4 months.  So, it's time.  Hopefully they'll adjust quickly!

Day 21 ~ Exploding Target

My husband bought some exploding targets to shoot at.  One of his good friends came over this morning to help him on the pump house and when they finished, they had to have a bit of fun before he left.  This is the exploding target before the blast and during the blast.  If you click on the photo it will enlarge and you'll be able to see all the pine needles and debris flying!  It was loud too - like a cannon shot!  Boys and their toys :)

Day 19 ~ My Son with our Dog

My husband, son, and neighbor were out putting up the roof trusses on the pump house today - that's what the wood in the background is for.  I came out to take photos of the process and my son actually ASKED me to take a photo of him with Cali.
